At first glance, “hemp treats” sound like they come from a meadow and are made from a healthy plant—and that’s exactly why so many people reach for them. But do hemp treats actually contain CBD, or is it something else entirely? That’s exactly the question we’ll be addressing here.
By the end, you'll know what makes a good hemp treat for your dog and how the different products differ.
What is a hemp treat for dogs?
A hemp treat is a snack for your dog that contains an ingredient derived from the hemp plant. It sounds simple, but it’s the source of a lot of confusion, because “hemp” can mean two different things.
Some treats contain only hemp seeds or hemp seed oil. These are nutrient-rich foods, but they contain virtually no CBD. Others, like our snacks, contain real hemp juice with the active ingredient CBD. So the name “hemp treats” alone doesn’t necessarily mean they contain CBD.
Hemp Treats and CBD: What's the Difference?
The difference lies in which part of the plant is used. CBD is not found in the seeds, but in the flowers and leaves. So a treat made from pure hemp seeds provides healthy fatty acids, but no significant active ingredient.
If you’re looking for a hemp treat that will accompany and support your dog in everyday life, make sure it contains CBD. We’ve outlined the detailed differences between pure hemp oil and real CBD in our guide, “Hemp Oil vs. CBD Oil.” To learn what CBD actually is and how it works, check out “CBD Oil for Dogs.”
Which dogs are hemp treats suitable for?
For adult dogs of all sizes. Many people use them as treats, during training, or as a little ritual during exciting moments. CBD naturally supports your dog through these experiences and can help promote their well-being.
To ensure that even the pickiest dog will enjoy them, our snacks come in chicken, fish, and vegan varieties. You can use the dosage calculator to figure out the right amount for your dog.
How can you tell if a hemp treat is good?
In the very same areas where we measure ourselves:
- With CBD—not just hemp seeds without the active ingredient.
- A fixed, specified amount of CBD per capsule and THC content below 0.2%.
- Transparent labeling for every variety.
- Honest ingredients without unnecessary fillers; regional, food-grade raw materials.
Our hemp treats are handcrafted in a small workshop in Bavaria. You can find an overview of all the varieties under " CBD Treats for Dogs."
Premium-Quality Hemp Treats with CBD
Are hemp treats also suitable for cats?
It depends. Cats should not be given our CBD products. The reason is the terpenes they contain, which cats cannot metabolize. This is not due to the CBD itself, but to these natural compounds found in the hemp plant.
Frequently Asked Questions About Hemp Treats for Dogs
Do hemp treats automatically contain CBD?
No. Some products contain only hemp seeds with negligible amounts of CBD. Make sure the product actually contains CBD if you want to support your dog’s body, mind, and spirit.
Do hemp treats get my dog high?
No. THC is the active ingredient, and its concentration must be below 0.2% in Germany. Of course, nacani complies with this limit.
Are hemp treats and CBD treats the same thing?
Not always, because some pure hemp treats do not contain CBD. “Hemp” refers to the plant, while “CBD” refers to the active ingredient derived from it.
How many hemp treats can my dog have per day?
It's not the number that matters, but the amount of CBD in milligrams. A general guideline is 0.5 to 1 mg per kilogram of body weight. Use our dosage calculator for easy calculations.
Not all hemp treats are created equal
The key factor is whether it contains CBD or just hemp seeds without the active ingredient. With products that list their ingredients clearly, you know exactly what’s in them and whether it’s the product you’re looking for.
