Every now and then, pet owners tell us that CBD doesn’t work for their pets. In most cases, however, it quickly becomes clear that the problem isn’t with the CBD itself, but rather with minor mistakes in how it’s used or choosing the wrong product.
That’s why we’re going to show you the four most common reasons why CBD doesn’t seem to work—and how you can easily fix them.
1. Incorrect dosage
The most common reason for a lack of results or unsatisfactory results when using CBD products is incorrect dosing.
Our general dosage recommendation is 0.5 to 1 mg of CBD per kg of body weight per day. However, this is only a guideline intended to serve as a rough guide. Every animal is unique and has different needs. Some animals are very sensitive and notice changes even with small amounts, while others require higher doses. Therefore, start with a low dose and increase it slowly until you reach the desired goal.
Our dosage calculator can also help you determine the correct dosage.
2. Errors in administration
When taking CBD, there are a few important points to keep in mind to get the most out of the product.
- Spreading Out the Daily Dose – The daily dose of CBD should ideally be divided into two to three doses throughout the day, as the active ingredient is metabolized by the body after about four to six hours. Spreading out the daily dose helps keep CBD levels consistent throughout the day.
- Form of administration – It can make a difference whether the CBD is absorbed directly through the oral mucosa or passes through the gastrointestinal tract first. Try applying the CBD oil directly to your pet’s lips to see if that works better for you.
- Take breaks – Every three months, you should take a short break and stop taking CBD for four to five days. This keeps your body’s endocannabinoid system active and prevents it from becoming sluggish.
3. Test phase too short
A common problem is that people often jump to conclusions too quickly, without having thoroughly tested the CBD product. Many pet owners expect immediate results, but in most cases, that’s not how it works.
How quickly CBD takes effect depends on several factors:
- Genetic predisposition – Every organism reacts differently.
- External factors and reasons for use – stress levels, living conditions, or health status all play a role.
- Baseline levels – Establishing a baseline CBD level is crucial for quick results! Only then does “more really make a difference.”
Our recommendation: Try a product for at least four to six weeks. This will ensure that you give your body enough time to absorb the CBD effectively.
4. Poor product quality
There are numerous CBD products on the market, but the differences in quality are vast—and as a result, people’s experiences vary widely.
- Full-spectrum oil – It contains all the beneficial plant compounds and is usually recognizable by its darker color.
- High-quality raw materials – quality from the very beginning ensures purity and effectiveness.
- Maximum transparency from the manufacturer – so you know exactly how much CBD is in the product and that the THC content is safe.

Give CBD a second chance!
As you can see, there could be many reasons why CBD hasn’t had the desired effect on your pet so far. Maybe you’ve already figured out which one might apply to your situation. If so, definitely give CBD another try!
With the right dosage, the right administration method, enough patience during the trial period, and a high-quality product, there’s a very good chance your pet will benefit from CBD.
