Many of you have asked us whether you can give our nacani products containing natural CBD to your horses as well. The answer is—absolutely! Why is that? Horses—just like humans and dogs—have an endocannabinoid system, or ECS for short. This system is responsible for the optimal functioning of the immune system and memory. In other words, it provides all-around support for the entire body and mind, whether for humans, dogs, or horses! Our products are not suitable for cats due to the terpenes they contain.

How is our CBD oil extracted?
Our nacani full-spectrum hemp oil, with a natural CBD content of 2.8% or 5.6%, is derived from the entire female industrial hemp plant. The THC content is less than 0.2%—so you have absolutely nothing to worry about; your horse won’t get high 😉

Hemp is often used as a natural alternative. One reason for this is that CBD has no serious side effects and is generally very easy to tolerate.
How does CBD work in horses?
CBD primarily has restorative, anxiety-relieving, and supportive properties, as well as a calming effect on the entire body.
Horses are flight animals that react quickly and sensitively to dangerous situations or stimuli, often becoming frightened or overwhelmed. They often fall into a state of fear that can escalate into panic. If this state of alertness builds up frequently and intensely in the body, it is very unhealthy for the animal in the long run. CBD can calm your horse’s system and help it recover from the situation more quickly or avoid falling into it in the first place.
What is CBD commonly used for in horses?
CBD is often administered to horses for the following mental and/or physical issues:
- for anxiety
- to promote mobility
- for a balanced skin and coat environment
- to support the digestive tract
- to help calm horses during times of stress and nervousness, such as when loading them into a trailer
But even if your horse is doing well, you can still use CBD simply to do something good for your animal. For example, it can have a positive effect on their coat and the quality of their hooves, and help support their body as they age. Despite its many positive effects, CBD is, of course, not a miracle cure. In cases of serious illness and/or when your horse is taking medication, we recommend consulting a veterinarian beforehand to determine the correct dosage.
CBD for Horses – What Is the Right Dosage?
The standard recommended dosage is typically 10–15 mg of CBD per 100 kg of the horse’s body weight. We recommend starting with half that amount—or even less—especially for horses new to CBD, and then gradually increasing the dose. This allows the horse’s body to adjust to the new product. How can you give CBD to horses?
It depends on the product you want to give your horse.
- CBD Oil – Our CBD oils can simply be placed under the tongue. This is where the mucous membranes absorb it most quickly. If your horse doesn’t like that, you can also mix the oil into its feed.
- CBD Snacks – Our CBD snacks, namely the nacanis and nacani MINIS, are also suitable for horses in their vegan version. They are ideal as a small snack or treat between meals. They contain banana, coconut flour, hemp flour, raspberry and blueberry pomace, flaxseed flour, and our hemp oil with natural CBD content. All ingredients come from sustainable, certified agriculture. The nacanis contain 3 mg of CBD per ball. Horses should therefore receive approximately 3–5 balls per 100 kg daily. The MINIS contain only 1 mg of CBD per ball. Horses should therefore receive approximately 10–15 balls per 100 kg daily.
